I’m not familiar with Sia, but Wikipedia informs me that is the stage name of Sia Furler, an Australian pop/jazz singer.
Today’s track is similar to the Lana Del Rey track that started off the week — more about mood than melody. I’m not a big fan of songs that I can’t hum along to after a couple of listens.
Songs like this are probably perfect for a movie, though. If a filmmaker uses a song that’s too catchy, she risks an audience that’s enjoying the song rather than the movie. But a song like this works more like orchestral music in the background.
Certainly there are exceptions. Quentin Tarantino and Wes Anderson have made their careers on perfectly matching pop songs to visuals. But others have gotten into a trap where their movies wind up more interesting to listen to than to watch.
Coming out of your mouth
But the snore is too loud
Follow the hands as they move
Try to make out your mood
But my brain doesn’t want to
Silent call for you
What have I done to you
Kill and run, kill and run
I’m one of the dirty guns
Kill and run, kill and run
A bullet through your heart
Interpret the eyes as they die
Should i cry should I love
Your poor lashes blow
Victim of sensory love
You cry over my
An innocent call
Silent call for you
What have I done to you
Kill and run, kill and run
I’m one of the dirty guns
Kill and run, kill and run
A bullet through your heart
Kill and run, kill and run
I’m one of the dirty guns
Kill and run, kill and run
A bullet through your heart
Well here’s another one that I cannot tell if or where the song was used in the movie. I’m hoping you will feature something like beyonce’s “crazy in love,” which I actually recall being used.
While this song is certainly moody and not poppy, I think it works a bit more as a stand alone than you give it credit for.
I really like it and am trying to hum along just to be a contrarian/ smart ass. Very strong vocals, I like her. Was this in a movie or were you just suggesting it would be good for that purpose?
All of these were featured at some point in The Great Gatsby movie, though often they were converted quickly into jazzy sounds. I like this song though, I pretty much love the whole album XD
Played at the end of the movie. Very powerful, very “there”. Sorry you missed it. Maybe give it a re-listen and actually let your ears and heart please you, and not what you think others want to hear. I rarely give 10’s but I probably would give her a 10.
