This summer single experiment has been interesting and illuminating. I really like the experience of hearing a song for the first time when I’m about to write it up. It’s the polar opposite of what I usually do on this blog, posting songs I know by heart. I think I’ll continue to do this from time to time so I can keep tabs on what the kids are listening to.
Apart from a brief mention of 3OH!3 by my sister a few weeks ago, I have absolutely no idea who or what they are. Based on the image I found to accompany this blog entry, I’d guess they are cousins to MGMT. Of course I’m not all that familiar with MGMT’s music either, so that doesn’t do me much good. Now, off to hear their big summer single, which features accompaniment (of course) by Ke$ha.
My god, that was horrible. By far the worst thing I’ve heard over the past two weeks. I would think these guys are an SNL parody if I didn’t know any better. And what’s with Ke$ha’s contribution, which amounts to a single spoken line and a lot of skanky writhing in the video?
Any 3OH3! fans out there who want to sing the praises of this song, or steer me toward something of theirs that’s better?

i agree, this song is crap. And I’m curious whether any woman would really want to kiss the dud with the long dark hair?
I will certainly not sing the praises of today’s SOTD, but I will offer the 3OH!3 song with which I’m more familiar. This one – “follow Me Down” – was all over the radio in the weeks leading up to and the months following the release of Alice in Wonderland.
I like that song much more than today’s, but that’s likely because I associate it with the film, which I enjoyed.
