Song of the Day #79: ‘The Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine’ – Spoon

So… 79 songs into this song of the day experiment, and I believe this is the first time I’ve picked a song about which I don’t really have anything specific to say. No personal anecdote to share or broad theme to discuss.

Just a song.

I was introduced to Spoon by a musically hip co-worker who burned me a copy of their Gimme Fiction album. I took to it immediately, and especially to this song. What I like about Spoon’s music (at least on the two albums I now own) is how laser-focused it is… they are the opposite of a jam band. Every song features a tight, driving rhythm section and staccato vocals and few of them last more than three minutes. It’s great party music (not like I go to many parties) and great driving music (I do drive a lot).

This homemade video is cute. I love how today’s youth can so easily experiment with filmmaking… it’s the equivalent of Steven Spielberg screwing around with an 8 millimeter camera as a kid, but they have so many more tools at their disposal.
