Song of the Day #6,037: ‘Pink Skies’ – Zach Bryan

It’s a country-fest on the year-end Billboard Hot 100. Following yesterday’s line dance hit ‘Austin,’ the next four tracks are by country bros. Three of those are the same bro — Morgan Wallen, who sits at #28 (‘Last Night‘), #29 (‘Cowgirls‘), and #31 (‘Thinkin’ Bout Me‘).

In between all that Morgan Wallen is Zach Bryan at #30 with ‘Pink Skies,’ a touching song about grief. I’ve heard only a few of Bryan’s songs, but I’ve been impressed by every one. He reminds me a bit of Jason Isbell in those tracks — high praise — and that has me wanting to hear more.

Song of the Day #5,757: ‘I Remember Everything’ – Zach Bryan feat. Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves’ new album hasn’t made much of a splash, with only one of its songs appearing on the Hot 100 — ‘Deeper Well,’ all the way down at #76.

But Musgraves’s duet with Zach Bryan, ‘I Remember Everything,’ is still going strong. It hit #1 weeks ago — giving both artists their first chart-topper — and is still camped out in the top ten, at #7.

Song of the Day #5,312: ‘Something in the Orange’ – Zach Bryan

In a year that gave us a new Beyoncé album, it’s surprising to see her first and only appearance on the year-end Hot 100 way down at #38. But that’s where you’ll find ‘Break My Soul.’

At #39 is yet another country bro, the fourth in the 30s, as Zach Bryan shows up with the oddly titled ‘Something in the Orange,’ the second single from his album American Heartbreak.
