Song of the Day #5,529: ‘Hyaena’ – Travis Scott

My apologies for choosing to do a ‘What the Kids are Listening To’ segment the week after Travis Scott’s new album dropped. Rounding out this week’s posts is ‘Hyaena,’ the opening track of Scott’s Utopia and the fourth song of his to appear in the past two weeks. It debuted at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

As daily commenter Dana suggested last week, this album was not intended for me. I’m sure there are plenty of people my age who enjoy it, but I’m sure there are plenty more who don’t get it and never will.

Song of the Day #5,527: ‘I KNOW ?’ – Travis Scott

Travis Scott makes appearance number three in this edition of ‘What the Kids are Listening To,’ this time with the track ‘I KNOW ?’ from his new album Utopia. The song made its Hot 100 debut at #11.

This track is more melodic and mellow than the two other Scott tracks on the chart. I don’t exactly like it, but it doesn’t have me reaching for the stop button either. If I have any Travis Scott readers out there, I’d love to hear what it is about his music that appeals to you.

Song of the Day #5,521: ‘FE!N’ – Travis Scott feat. Playboi Carti

Here’s the second Travis Scott track I promised in this installment of ‘What the Kids are Listening To.’ ‘FE!N,’ a collaboration with rapper Playboi Carti, landed at #5 on the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving Scott two top five debuts in the same week.

While I was kinda digging the previous entry, this one is making me feel old again. I’m not sure what “FE!N” means (Genius.com suggests it’s a twist on the word “fiend” and references both a drug user and a demon), but I know I don’t want to hear it repeated 20 times per chorus.

Song of the Day #5,519: ‘Meltdown’ – Travis Scott feat. Drake

In the #3 spot on this week’s Hot 100 is a name that (spoiler alert) will show up another couple of times between this week and next. Rapper Travis Scott recently dropped his fourth studio album, Utopia, and fans sent all 19 of its tracks up this chart.

The winner among them, so far, is third single ‘Meltdown,’ a collaboration with Drake. This is the sixth collaboration between the two men, though the #1 hit ‘Sicko Mode’ doesn’t officially list Drake as a feature for Billboard’s purposes.

Song of the Day #3,841: ‘Sicko Mode’ – Travis Scott

Travis Scott sits at #4 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, with an assist from Drake, who has pretty much owned this chart for more than a year now.

This is Scott’s second appearance in the top ten, and his first as the primary artist (he previously reached #6 as a featured performer on Kodak Black’s ‘Zeze’).
