Song of the Day #2,596: ‘Good For You’ – Selena Gomez feat. A$AP Rocky

selena_gomezTaylor Swift’s inescapable ‘Bad Blood’ sits at #9 on Billboard’s Hot 100. When I first heard that song on 1989, it stood out as by far the worst song on the album. I never imagined it could be a hit, let alone this massive a hit. Go figure.

Rounding out the top ten is a track by one of Taylor’s besties, Selena Gomez. ‘Good For You’ is Gomez’s sexy “I’m no longer a Disney girl” song, following in the tradition of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Miley Cyrus.

Song of the Day #2,342: ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ – Selena Gomez

selena_gomezIn Billboard’s 11th spot is Tove Lo with ‘Habits (Stay High),’ a good song that has had a nice run on this chart.

At #12 is Selena Gomez with ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants,’ a song I’m guessing was not inspired by Woody Allen’s use of that phrase.

I thought Gomez was still in rehab or recovery or something, so I’m surprised to see her with new music on the charts.

Song of the Day #1,137: ‘Love You Like a Love Song’ – Selena Gomez & The Scene

Today’s entry doesn’t qualify as a proper album review like the rest of my songs this week and last because I haven’t actually heard the whole album, just three tracks.

My daughters are big fans of the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, which stars Selena Gomez as a smart-aleck teenage witch. Gomez is a charming actress and not a bad singer, giving her a leg up on many of the wannabe multi-platform stars on the tween shows that have overtaken my TV.

Gomez is also dating Justin Bieber, making her the envy (and target) of an army of little girls. And boy, could she do better.
