Earlier this week I named ‘Theme from New York, New York’ as #5 on my list of Oscar Best Song snubs.
That same year, 1977, saw the release of the film that tops my list.
If ever a movie (and a great movie, at that) was defined by its music, it was Saturday Night Fever. And yet the Academy didn’t see fit to nominate a single song from its record-shattering and Grammy-winning soundtrack.

From the torch balladry of Frank Sinatra, we move to the disco era and the Bee Gees’ dance-tastic ‘Night Fever.’ Gotta love Random iTunes Weekends.
This song is the origin of the movie title Saturday Night Fever, originally titled Saturday Night. I learned that from Wikipedia.
I don’t really have much to say about today’s Random Weekend selection except that a) this is one of the last tracks I would choose to highlight from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack if it were up to me; and b) John Travolta was such a sexy and dynamic presence back in the day and boy has he turned into a freakshow over the past several years.
