Song of the Day #5,391: ‘(And She Said) Take Me Now’ – Justin Timberlake

The Random iTunes Fairy must have been a little sore about my comments dissing Justin Timberlake two weekends ago because she’s serving up another helping from his 2002 debut solo album, Justified.

While I do like this more than the syrupy ballad we got last time, it’s not anything I ever need to hear again. Inviting Janet Jackson to feature on a second-rate Michael Jackson song doesn’t make you Michael Jackson!

Song of the Day #5,370: ‘Never Again’ – Justin Timberlake

Last Sunday, I asked for thoughts on how to proceed with weekend posts as Random Weekends passes its 11th anniversary.

The consensus was nearly unanimous: a return to Ron Sexsmith Weekends. Stay tuned next week for a deep dive into his earlier, unreleased material.

All kidding aside, so far I’ve heard suggestions to keep things as they are, to serve up a ‘classic rewind’ feature, or to limit the random selections to new artists rather than music already in my collection.

Song of the Day #2,279: ‘Let’s Take a Ride’ – Justin Timberlake

justin_timberlake_justifiedHere’s a track from Justin Timberlake’s debut solo album, Justified, released in 2002.

Like most of the album, the track was co-written by Timberlake, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams. I believe this is the first time I’ve heard the song, and god willing, it will be the last.

This track solidifies my opinion that Timberlake is a better actor than a pop star. I know he went on to bigger and better things, but isn’t it all pretty much in this vein?
