Song of the Day #5,608: ‘Demons’ – Imagine Dragons

The 2013 installment of Throwback Weekends continues to annoy, as once again the majority of the top ten has been featured on the blog before. This is due to a combination of my having written about some of these songs at the time and the fact that the Billboard Top Ten was remarkably static that year.

I won’t list the songs in the top seven spots as I have in previous weeks. It’s the same roundup of Lorde, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Drake, Jay-Z and friends. All decent enough songs, but apparently the only songs worth hearing during the back half of that year.

Song of the Day #5,482: ‘Radioactive’ – Imagine Dragons

Audiences were in a frisky mood during today’s Throwback Weekend week of July 6, 2013. Topping the Billboard Hot 100 that week were Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ and Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky.’ Both songs have been featured on the blog, so that brings me to the week’s #3 song.

Imagine Dragons have never had a #1 hit, but the’ve had five songs reach the top ten (with four of those making the top five). ‘Radioactive’ performed the best of all, peaking at #3 but setting some impressive records in the meantime. For nearly a decade, this song was the track with the most consecutive weeks in the Hot 100 (87) before it was topped by The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ and later Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves.’

Song of the Day #5,018: ‘Enemy’ – Imagine Dragons x J.I.D.

Adele’s ‘Easy on Me‘ continues its five-months-and-counting run in the top ten, sitting at the #7 spot on this week’s Billboard Hot 100.

At #8 is Imagine Dragon’s ‘Enemy,’ featuring rapper J.I.D. This song was written for a Netflix animated series Arcane, which is based on a video game called League of Legends. If you’re over 18, it’s likely none of that means anything to you.

Song of the Day #3,618: ‘Whatever It Takes’ – Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons holds the #12 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 with ‘Whatever It Takes,’ the third single from their third studio album, Evolve.

The first two singles, ‘Believer’ and ‘Thunder,’ each made it as high as #4. Will this track join them in the top ten? Stay tuned to find out! (Actually, I will likely never write about this song again, so if you’re truly curious, I’d encourage you to visit Billboard.com).

Song of the Day #3,451: ‘Thunder’ – Imagine Dragons

Today is my birthday, and while it doesn’t fall on a Random Weekend, the nature of my Billboard countdown means today’s song choice isn’t in my control. So what did the hands of fate serve up in tribute?

‘Thunder,’ by Imagine Dragons, which occupies the #5 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100. This is the 4th top ten hit for Imagine Dragons, a Las Vegas-based indie rock band, and their second this year (‘Believer’ reached #4 over the summer).
