I guess the late summer of the ass song was bound to culminate in something as horrible as this. Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Booty,’ featuring Iggy Azalea, is the sort of thing that makes me sympathize with the terrorists.
This song was initially released with a rap by frequent J Lo collaborator Pitbull, but somebody realized that two female asses are better than one, so Iggy Azalea was recruited for the remix. Thirty-three million YouTube views (and counting) suggest that somebody was right.
In the 4th and 5th Billboard spots this week are two repeats — Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me‘ and Magic!’s ‘RUDE.’
Smith never managed to hit #1 with his sleepy love song, while ‘RUDE’ managed a few weeks at the top spot (and inspired a NY Post article suggesting it might be the worst #1 song in history).
At #6 is a new song from a familiar name on this chart, Iggy Azalea.
The time has come, once again, to scan the Billboard charts and post the songs currently sitting on top.
It’s been two months since I last mined the charts for Song of the Day fodder, so I figured I’d have a whole new batch of hits to hear.
Not the case. Four of the current top ten hits were in the top ten the last time I did this. Popular songs tend to stay popular.
If you were to listen to Iggy Azalea without seeing her, you’d probably guess she was a southern black rapper. Listen while watching one of her videos and you’d move on to southern white rapper.
You’d have to hear her speaking voice to arrive at the fact that she’s Australian. Didn’t see that one coming.
