Song of the Day #3,205: ‘Drop’ – Chloe x Halle

Last year Chloe x Halle released Sugar Symphony, their first EP on Beyoncé’s Parkland label. It’s part of a reported six album, $1 million deal.

Those terms have proved to be quite controversial among fans and YouTube commenters. Some call it a lucky break that 99% of YouTubers can only dream of, while others call it modern day slavery. $500,000 apiece for six albums does seem awfully low, although if those albums are 6-track EPs like this one, they might come pretty quick.

Song of the Day #226: ‘Drop’ – The Pharcyde

pharcydeApparently the celebrated, world-renowned Jamie Thraves got the inspiration for his backward Coldplay video in part from Spike Jonze’s video for The Pharcyde’s ‘Drop.’

This song marks a first for the Song of the Day series… the first time I’m featuring a song I’ve never heard of by a group I’ve never heard of. According to AllMusic.com, The Pharcyde was “an influential alternative rap quartet from South Central Los Angeles” who had fleeting success in the early to mid-90s.
