Song of the Day #5,375: ‘Violets for Roses’ – Lana Del Rey

After a steady diet of an album every other year, Lana Del Rey surprised everyone by dropping a second record just six months after Chemtrails over the Country Club. The pair of folk rock releases drew a neat parallel to Taylor Swift’s folklore/evermore duo the previous year.

Blue Bannisters came out in October of 2021 with very little fanfare and almost no promotion by Del Rey herself. She says she designed the album as a response to criticism aimed at her over the years, and as a glimpse at the troubled human being behind the pop star.

The result is the most gorgeous therapy session you’ll ever hear.

Song of the Day #4,877: ‘Black Bathing Suit’ – Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey is back with her second album of 2021, following the release of Chemtrails Over the Country Club in March. The new record, titled Blue Bannisters, features 15 new tracks. This deluge of material reminds me of Taylor Swift’s one-two punch of Folklore and Evermore last year.

It’s great to witness artists peaking creatively and channeling that inspiration into new albums. Often when I look back at the careers of big stars from the 70s, I’m amazed to see how often they released albums during their heyday. Feels like we’re seeing the same sort of thing with Swift and Del Rey.

Song of the Day #4,739: ‘Text Book’ – Lana Del Rey

A few weeks back, when I started rolling out blog posts on new music releases, one of the first albums I featured was Lana Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club. I was happy to have a new album by one of my favorite artists.

Well, it looks like I’m going to get another one. Since I posted that song, Del Rey dropped three new songs online and said they are from an upcoming album titled Blue Bannisters that will likely drop in July. This is some Taylor Swift folklore/evermore-level shit.
