Song of the Day #1,616: ‘Skyfall’ – Adele

adele_skyfallYou have to assume that when the producers of Skyfall, the latest James Bond flick, started discussing the new opening song that Adele was the very first name on their wish list.

I can’t think of a better marriage of voice and material — Adele was born to sing a Bond song. And she delivered a beauty, more than worthy of the great film director Sam Mendes delivered.

Song of the Day #1,306: ‘Someone Like You’ – Adele

Charting at #9 on the Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll is Adele’s second smash single, ‘Someone Like You.’ ‘Rolling in the Deep,’ predictably, sits at the #1 spot with a nearly 20-vote lead.

It’s impressive that Adele dominated the charts, the airwaves and critics’ year-end lists. Usually those things don’t happen at the same time. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time a year’s best-selling album was also its most critically acclaimed.

First up is a track from Adele’s smash hit 21, which has dominated the charts and airwaves since its release in February.

Top Ten ‘Glee’ Performances – Season 2
#8 – ‘Rolling in the Deep’ – Rachel & Jesse

Jonathan Groff’s Jesse St. James played a key role in ‘Glee’s first season, starting a romance with Rachel at the request of her birth mother (his Vocal Adrenaline coach, played by Idina Menzel) before breaking both her heart and an egg on her head.

Groff is best friends with Lea Michele, having starred alongside her in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening, and their chemistry has been apparent in the several duets they’ve performed on ‘Glee.’
