Song of the Day #1,498: ‘Life’ – Josh Rouse

Josh Rouse has a way with closing tracks. He’s aware that an album should ebb and flow, and that you shouldn’t be able to confuse the first song with the last.

He tends to favor a quick start and a slow finish, with emotional peaks and valleys in between. This is one of just many ways to sequence an album, but it’s an effective one, and one he has returned to again ad again.

Song of the Day #132: ‘A Day in the Life’ – The Beatles

sgtpepperI consider Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band the most overrated Beatles album.

In one sense, it’s not overrated at all — it most certainly changed the face of popular music, redefined the ‘concept’ album and became the unofficial soundtrack of the Summer of Love. in the historic sense, the impact of this album can’t be questioned.

But when it comes down to the actual songs… eh.
