Song of the Day #6,154: ‘I’m the Problem’ – Morgan Wallen

Getting back to the latest installment of ‘What the Kids are Listening To,’ we arrive at this week’s #7, where Morgan Wallen sits with the title track of his upcoming fourth album, I’m the Problem.

This is the fourth single from the album, which comes out this Friday. All four have reached the top ten, with one hitting #1 and one (this one) hitting #2. Suffice it to say, this album is going to be big.

Song of the Day #6,153: ‘One Night in Bangkok’ – Murray Head

The top four of the Hot 100 was pretty locked in the week of May 11, 1985. I’ve featured all four already: Madonna’s ‘Crazy For You,’ ‘We Are the World,’ Simple Minds’ ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me),’ and DeBarge’s ‘Rhythm of the Night.’

That brings us to #5, where the unlikely New Wave/hip-hop hit ‘One Night in Bangkok’ sat, on its way to peaking at #3. This was a single from the concept album Chess, released by Broadway songwriter Tim Rice and ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The album was later turned into a hit musical in both England and the United States.

Song of the Day #6,153: ‘He Don’t Love You (Like I Love You)’ – Tony Orlando & Dawn

Throwing back to the week of May 10, 1975, we find Tony Orlando & Dawn atop the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘He Don’t Love You (Like I Love You),’ a cover of the Jerry Butler song ‘He Will Break Your Heart.’

Song of the Day #6,152: ‘Pink Pony Club’ – Chappell Roan

Shaboozey sits at #5 on the Hot 100 this week with ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy),’ an absolute juggernaut spending its 54th week on the chart. It has spent 51 of those weeks in the top ten, nine short of the record currently held by Teddy Swims’ ‘Lose Control.’

It just might catch it, but Swims’ track is hanging on and padding the record, sitting at #9 this week.

Song of the Day #6,151: ‘Nokia’ – Drake

Holding down the fourth spot on the latest Billboard Hot 100 is Drake with the song ‘Nokia,’ the second single from the album Some Sexy Songs 4 U, a collaboration with fellow Canadian rapper PartyNextDoor.

This is the best performing of four singles released from the album so far, having peaked at #2. It’s been two years since Drake had a #1 hit, after having at least one almost every year before that. Being on the losing end of the feud with Kendrick Lamar didn’t do him any favors.
