Song of the Day #4,779: ‘Stoned in the Nail Salon’ – Lorde

The four-year wait for Lorde’s followup to the excellent 2017 album Melodrama is nearly done, with Solar Power due out on August 20.

I found the album’s first single, and title song, a bit underwhelming after such a long wait. But I enjoyed its breeziness, and I think it’s just fine if she doesn’t try to redefine the sound of modern pop music every time she drops a record.

Song of the Day #4,778: ‘Industry Baby’ – Lil Nas X feat. Jack Harlow

When Lil Nas X set a record by placing 2018’s ‘Old Town Road’ atop the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 consecutive weeks, many people (myself included) figured he was the very definition of a one-hit wonder.

Song of the Day #4,777: ‘NDA’ – Billie Eilish

Song of the Day #4,775: ‘Finer Feelings’ – Spoon

It’s been four years since I last featured a Spoon song on the blog, and back then I wrote that they are “one of those bands whose work I always love when I play it, but whose music I seldom play.”

I found myself thinking the very same thing when today’s random song popped into my headphones. This is a great track from a great album (2007’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, the band’s sixth), but one I haven’t listened to in years.
