I was surprised to see today’s SOTD on the list of most underrated 80s songs. Not because of its critical acclaim, which is richly deserved, but because I figured it remained pretty well known today.
In fact, it is the fourth-least streamed song on the list, a sad state of affairs for an iconic 80s staple.
‘I Melt With You,’ by British New Wavers Modern English, didn’t exactly light up the charts when it was released in 1982 either. It didn’t crack the UK’s singles chart and peaked at #76 on the Billboard Hot 100. It barely qualifies as a hit by those numbers, though Modern English is rightly considered a one-hit wonder.
‘I Melt With You’ is one of my favorite New Wave songs. It’s propulsive and romantic, murky and melancholy — everything a good song from the genre should be.

This song’s inclusion on the underrated list surprises me as well. I’ve heard it a number of times over the years and it is a cover band and karaoke favorite.
It’s a good song for dancing for sure I didn’t know it at all
