Song of the Day #6,024: ‘Looking Forward’ – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Yesterday I looked back on my past year of blogging, so today is about the year to come. Here are some of my plans for 2025:

– ‘What the Kids are Listening To,’ starting with a recap of the Hot 100 songs from 2024 that I haven’t yet featured.

– ‘Decades,’ with 1976 and 1986 next on the slate. I managed only two Decades segments last year, so I’m not sure if I’ll make it to 1996 this year.

– ‘Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class Recaps,’ with 2012 still on deck a whole year later. I’ll make a point to get to it this year, and probably sneak in the new class as well once it’s announced.

– ‘Throwback Weekends,’ where we’ll find out if The Beatles’ 1965 was as dominant as their 1964.

– ‘Artist Deep and Shallow Dives,’ which I plan to make a priority this year. Introducing the Shallow Dive option paves the way for a lot of artists I had set aside for being too productive. I hope to knock out two or three of these in 2025.

– ‘Track-by-track Album Showcases,’ with Lana Del Rey’s upcoming The Right Person Will Stay as the lone new release currently on my radar. I will spend a week or two ranking the songs on that album, as I have for my other favorite artists in recent years.

Plus, of course, other one-off music topics as they occur to me. As for the movies…

– My ‘Top Ten Movies of 2024,’ which (barring some surprise late entries) is a bit weaker than the last couple of years.

– My ‘Personal Oscar Picks‘ in the five acting categories as well as Best Director.

– ‘Filmmaker Deep Dives’ of Steven Spielberg and Nicole Holofcener (I’ll keep putting this one here until I actually do it).

– Another October week on ‘Horror Movies

And my big movie project of the year…

– ‘Sight & Sound’s Greatest Films of All Time list,’ a compilation of what more that 1,500 critics consider the 250 best movies ever made. I have vowed to eventually watch everything on this list, though I’ll aim to cover the top 100 by the end of 2025.

I look forward to offering up all of this, plus a few surprises along the way. Thank you to all who continue reading along!

Other than the horror movie week, I’m looking forward to most of what you have in store for 2025. I would also welcome a track by track feature on Daniel Gallup’s new EP, which will be released early next year.

    Happy New Year!

Looking forward to a new year of great blogs!

I recently did some research on which female directors I’ve missed out on (sparked by Sophie’s exclusively male slate of directors most viewed on Letterboxd).

Was surprised by how many I don’t know and how few I know very well. Though I’m happy to see Holofcener once again make your to do list (and will be even happier if you actually feature her films this year!), I’m adding a request to feature on little known woman directors… maybe one film a day, doesn’t have to be a shallow or deep dive… just a toe in the water.

Thanks for your consideration, and Happy New Year!

The Sight & Sound list features quite a few women directors, so I’ll definitely be giving some of the most celebrated ones coverage there. This year has had its share of interesting movies by women as well.
