#8 – Charli XCX – Brat
I feel bad putting this album in last place because it feels like a judgement on the music. Really, it’s an acknowledgement of my own narrow tastes.
Brat is an EDM album that nods to the London rave scene where Charli XCX cut her teeth as a teenage performer. It’s aggressive, snarky, and loud — music to lose your mind to.
I can see why this is a great album without ever wanting to hear it again. Critics are falling over themselves to praise it, but I wonder how many of them fire it up in their free time.
Music like this is for a certain time, place, and attitude, and for better or worse, I’m 0 for 3 at this point in my life. But I’m glad the gays love it!
