Throwing back to the week of February 8, 1964, we find a charming young quartet known as The Beatles reaching Billboard’s top spot for the first time with ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand.’
This song launched Beatlemania in the U.S., selling millions of copies and hanging on to #1 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks. It was eventually replaced by the band’s ‘She Loves You,’ which was already a hit in the UK.
I did five months of ‘Beatles Weekends‘ on the blog but somehow managed to never feature this song.
That’s certainly not because I don’t like it. It’s one of the greatest pop singles ever written or recorded, a blast of pure adrenaline.
I’m excited that Throwback Weekends are moving in to the Beatles era.
Oh, yeah, I’ll tell you something
I think you’ll understand
When I’ll say that something
I wanna hold your hand
[Chorus: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
[Verse 2: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
Oh, please, say to me
You’ll let me be your man
And please, say to me
You’ll let me hold your hand
[Chorus: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
Now, let me hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
[Post-Chorus: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
And when I touch you
I feel happy inside
It’s such a feeling that, my love
I can’t hide
I can’t hide
I can’t hide
[Verse 3: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
Yeah, you
Got that something
I think you’ll understand
When I’ll
Say that something
I want to hold your hand
[Chorus: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
[Post-Chorus: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
And when I touch you
I feel happy inside
It’s such a feeling that, my love
I can’t hide
I can’t hide
I can’t hide
[Verse 4: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
Yeah, you
Got that something
I think you’ll understand
When I’ll
Feel that something
I wanna hold your hand
[Chorus: Paul McCartney & John Lennon]
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I can’t believe you had never featured this song. I thought for sure you would be using some live version to avoid your no-repeat rule.
I love that we recently had the opportunity to enjoy the Beatles’ experience on our cruise ❤️
The world would never be the same after it.
