The #10 song of 2023, according to Billboard, is another I managed to miss entirely: ‘I’m Good (Blue)’ by David Guetta and Beve Rexha.
This song had a long journey to the 2023 top ten. The duo initially worked on the track in 2017, with no intention to release it. However, when a snippet of the song (which heavily samples Eiffel 65’s 1998 ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’) went viral on TikTok, they decided to give it an official release.
The song dropped in late 2022 and started a worldwide run that saw it topping charts in multiple countries. It peaked at #4 in the U.S. on January 14, 2023, right when I was counting down the top songs of 2022.
This is one of those songs that (in my opinion) owes its popularity entirely to the material its sampling. Sure, Guetta spices things up with his effective dance beats and Rexha contributes a decent vocal, but everything memorable about the track started in ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee).’

I’m familiar with this one through Orange Theory, which is where I am exposed to most new music nowadays. I agree that the catchiness of this song is the sample, though I think that is true for most hits that use samples.
