I quickly snatched up the general admission tickets for me and my wife, and we chuckled at the thought of packing together with a bunch of other aging Gen-Xers to watch one of our favorite 90s bands.
This will be our third time seeing Toad live. The first was in their heyday, the mid-90s, in another Fort Lauderdale club. The second was opening for Counting Crows seven years ago.
I was also excited to learn the band would release their seventh studio album this year, and their first since 2013’s New Constellation. Starting Now doesn’t have a release date yet, but the band has dropped two singles.
This one, the title track, was recorded in the band members’ homes during quarantine. It’s about it never being too late to make things better.
Won’t waste another instant
I fed my fears
With things that haven’t been yet
Well hope don’t mean you sit there
Just waiting for the changes
It’s fighting for the long shot
It’s getting in the trenches
All I own
Is borrowed from my children
I’ll leave this world
More bright than when I came in
So starting with the next breath
I’ll dig a little deeper
Live a little kinder
And love a little sweeter
The best time to changе
Was many years ago
Next best thing
Is starting whеre we are
If heaven isn’t waiting
If all there is is this
Why wait another minute
To trust the heart and live
