At #8 on Billboard’s Hot 100 we have our first and only track that’s already been featured on the blog — Adele’s ‘Hello.’ That baby is hanging on months after it debuted. But given the record-shattering sales of Adele’s 25, I’m surprised this is still the only song to make a real splash.
In the ninth spot is ‘Cake By the Ocean’ by DNCE. DNCE is a band formed last year by Joe Jonas and this track, their first single, was released in September and has taken a leisurely stroll into the top ten.
The song’s title is a phrase the song’s Swedish producers mistakenly used when they meant to say “sex on the beach.” Nice to see an inside joke power the chorus of a hit pop song.
This is a very catchy tune and if it weren’t March I’d day it’s a good candidate for the Song of the Summer competition. Can it hang on that long?
Oh, no
See you walking ’round like it’s a funeral
Not so serious, girl; why those feet cold?
We just getting started; don’t you tiptoe, tiptoe, ah
[Pre-Chorus]
Waste time with a masterpiece, don’t waste time with a masterpiece
You should be rolling with me, you should be rolling with me, ah
You’re a real-life fantasy, you’re a real-life fantasy
But you’re moving so carefully; let’s start living dangerously
[Chorus]
Talk to me, baby
I’m going blind from this sweet sweet craving, whoa-oh
Let’s lose our minds and go fucking crazy
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
Walk for me, baby
I’ll be Diddy, you be Naomi, whoa-oh
Let’s lose our minds and go fucking crazy
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
[Verse 2]
God damn
See you licking frosting from your own hands
Want another taste, I’m begging, yes ma’am
I’m tired of all this candy on the dry land, dry land, oh
[Pre-Chorus]
Waste time with a masterpiece, don’t waste time with a masterpiece
You should be rolling with me, you should be rolling with me, ah
You’re a real-life fantasy, you’re a real-life fantasy
But you’re moving so carefully; let’s start living dangerously
[Chorus]
Talk to me, baby
I’m going blind from this sweet sweet craving, whoa-oh
Let’s lose our minds and go fucking crazy
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
Walk for me, baby (walk for me now)
I’ll be Diddy, you be Naomi, whoa-oh
Let’s lose our minds and go fucking crazy
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
[Bridge]
You’re fucking delicious
Talk to me, girl
[Outro]
Red velvet, vanilla, chocolate in my life
Funfetti, I’m ready; I need it every night
Red velvet, vanilla, chocolate in my life
Ah ya ya ya ya I keep on hoping we’ll eat cake by the ocean
This has been a popular song with Daniel in our drives. Once again, though, the radio version is cleaned up, so I had no idea the f bombs were dropped so often in the original. A very catchy song nonetheless.
Big fan of this song, but I don’t think it will be able to last into the summer… perhaps Nick Jonas will take over that spot (the best JoBro) 🙂
