I didn’t think it was right to have a Random Sunday without a Random Saturday, so here’s a little treasure that popped into my Facebook feed this morning.
Jimmy Fallon is an exceptional impressionist, especially (and maybe exclusively?) when it comes to musicians. His Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Jim Morrison and David Bowie are all priceless.
But he is never better than when he assumes the persona of Bob Dylan, in any of his incarnations.
Here he twists Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ into the melody of ‘Positively 4th Street’ and captures the voice and look of mid-60s Dylan perfectly.
Fantastic!
What makes him so great is that his impersonations always come from a clear appreciation/love for the artists he’s impersonating. That sense of being a fan of the work of the artists he’s interviewing or inviting to play games on his show is what makes him so likeable to both the guests and the viewers of his show.
I don’t think he could do nearly as good a Dylan impersonation if he didn’t know and love Dylan’s work.
I agree Amy; imitation is the highest form of flattery or something like that; he is so talented
