Continuing my look back at the best movies and television of 2015, today I’ll focus on some of my favorite movie scenes/moments this year.
These are in no order, offered up free association style.
– Adonis Creed’s triumphant run, accompanied by neighborhood motorcyclists, in Creed
– Rocky’s triumphant (in a different way) ascension of the famous stairs in the same film
– Bing Bong’s sacrifice in Inside Out
– The truly moving ending of Fast & Furious 7, which sent off the late Paul Walker in lovely fashion
– Every time Matt Damon’s Mark Watney sciences the shit out of something in The Martian
– Shameik Moore’s end credits dancing in Dope
– LeBron James’ scenes in Trainwreck
– The many examples of magical realism in Paddington
– The evolution of the relationship between Mark Ruffalo and Stanley Tucci’s characters in Spotlight
– Finn and Rey turning to run toward a junky old ship that turns out to be the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
– My very favorite moment of the year is when (Spoiler Alert!) Rey uses the Force to grab Luke’s light saber from the snow in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not only is it a powerful piece of plot and character development, beautifully directed by J.J. Abrams and scored by John Williams, but it’s a potent feminist statement. It’s the moment when it becomes clear that the new hero’s journey in the most beloved and successful film franchise of all time will be taken by a young woman.
– Also, the left-field brilliance of this dance scene from Ex Machina
A good collection of memorable moments.
I agree, especially the dance scene; I always love a good dance scene a la John Travolta in Pulp Fiction š
Yes!!! In a movie full of tense moments and just mystery as a whole this scene of Oscar Isaac busting out these dance moves was much needed. It was really amazing. I agree with you about all of these scenes and consider them some of my favorites as well.
Great scenes and moments from some wonderful films. Now you’ve inspired me to want to come up with a list of my own! š
