And now for something completely different…
From the torch balladry of Frank Sinatra, we move to the disco era and the Bee Gees’ dance-tastic ‘Night Fever.’ Gotta love Random iTunes Weekends.
This song is the origin of the movie title Saturday Night Fever, originally titled Saturday Night. I learned that from Wikipedia.
I also learned that ‘Night Fever’ spent more than two months at #1 and was both preceded and followed by #1 hits also written by the Gibb brothers. In 1978, it was hard to find bigger stars than these guys.
Listen to the ground
There is movement all around
There is something goin’ down
And I can feel it
On the waves of the air
There is dancin’ out there
If it’s somethin’ we can share
We can steal it
And that sweet city woman
She moves through the light
Controlling my mind and my soul
When you reach out for me
Yeah, and the feelin’ is right
[Hook]
Then I get night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Here I am
Prayin’ for this moment to last
Livin’ on the music so fine
Borne on the wind
Makin’ it mine
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
[Verse 2]
In the heat of our love
Don’t need no help for us to make it
Gimme just enough to take us to the mornin’
I got fire in my mind
I got higher in my walkin’
And I’m glowin’ in the dark
I give you warnin’
And that sweet city woman
She moves through the light
Controlling my mind and my soul
When you reach out for me
Yeah, and the feelin’ is right
[Hook]
Then I get night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Here I am
Prayin’ for this moment to last
Livin’ on the music so fine
Borne on the wind
Makin’ it mine
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
At the time, there were those suggesting that the BeeGees were as popular as The Beatles. History has proven that not to be the case, but they certainly ruled the 70s.
Thanks for printing the lyrics by the way. I rarely understood anything Barry Gibbs sang.😄
Just love watching John Travolta dance to these songs!
I believe their first album was one of my first – 1967. Love this whole sound track.
