Taylor Swift sits at the #6 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with the juggernaut that is ‘Shake It Off.’ It’s upsetting that a song this bad is Swift’s biggest hit.
At #7 is Sam Smith with ‘I’m Not the Only One.’ Smith had a big 2014, his ‘Stay With Me‘ dominating the charts for weeks.
I don’t like that song and I don’t like this one. I don’t like Sam Smith. I do not like him, Sam I Am.
Maybe it’s his voice. Maybe it’s his wide-eyed stare. Maybe it’s the fact that he sounds like he’s crying through all of his songs.
Sam Smith is Morrissey without the wit or the attitude.
You and me, we made a vow
For better or for worse
I can’t believe you let me down
But the proof is in the way it hurts
For months on end I’ve had my doubts
Denying every tear
I wish this would be over now
But I know that I still need you here
[Chorus]
You say I’m crazy
Cause you don’t think I know what you’ve done
But when you call me baby
I know I’m not the only one
[Verse 2]
You’ve been so unavailable
Now sadly I know why
Your heart is unobtainable
Even though Lord knows you kept mine
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
I have loved you for many years
Maybe I am just not enough
You’ve made me realise my deepest fear
By lying and tearing us up
[Chorus]
You may have an argument on your hands with my son on Smith. I’m not surprised though that you are not a fan. You are not a fan of soul/R&B generally, and Smith is basically watered down blue-eyed (white) soul.
I’d never heard of this song or the artist until the past few weeks when I went back home to Tennessee for a 3 week visit. I got a lot of listens to “Stay With Me” as it’s now one of my sister’s favorite songs and it was in regular rotation on the TV music station that she was listening to all the time. Smith has got a nice style.

I definitely do feel the need to argue with you on this one. Sam Smith is one of the most interesting male artists right now. That thing you say about him crying is because of the emotion he portrays through his voice. He writes about things that male artists either are too afraid to write about or don’t feel that it is marketable. Sam Smith is singing about a very emotional experience and so I would only hope that his voice matched the tone and the lyrics. He is original and unique and I feel that one shouldn’t feel the need to compare him to other artists since he is his own thing.
I liked this one. very soulful and compeling, for me.
