Song of the Day #2,292: ‘Love in High Places’ – Kimbra

kimbraI’m guessing I’m not alone in having had no idea who Kimbra was until she showed up on a verse of Gotye’s smash hit ‘Somebody That I Used to Know.’

The New Zealand indie pop artist has released two solo albums: Vow in 2011 and The Golden Echo, which dropped this August. Today’s SOTD is a track from the new record.

Kimbra has an interesting sound, nothing like the Gotye track that brought her widespread attention. She has a jazzy Bjork quality that is intriguing but not really my cup of tea.

[Intro]
Yea-a-ah
Yea-a-ah
Yeah

[Verse 1]
I will be your savior
When no one’ll save ya
Be your shining light, galvanize
Make you burn all up inside

[Pre-Chorus 1]
But there’s a space that I’m saving
To keep me strong
There is a place that I’m saving
We can’t stay for long

[Verse 2]
I will be your lotus
Growing slow so you don’t notice
Out of the deadwood, the deceased
Look close, then you’ll find me, oh

[Pre-Chorus 2]
There’s a space that I’m saving
Got to keep it strong, hey
There is a place that I am craving
We can’t stay for long

[Chorus 1]
Find me in the forest, in the fire
Find me in the midst of your desire
I got love in high places
Love in high places
Find me in the secrets, in the lies
Find me in the darkest place, and in the light
I got a love in high places
I see the love in all the faces

[Break]

[Verse 3]
I will be your danger
When you think nothing can change ya
It’s pyrotechnical, physical
The way I rock your manger, mmm

[Pre-Chorus 3]
Biut there’s a space that I’m saving
To keep me strong
There is a path that I’m paving
Cause we can’t stay for long

[Chorus 2]
Find me in the forest, in the fire
Find me in the midst of your desire
I got love in high places
Love in high places
Find me in the sacred, and the pain
Find me in the dry earth, in the rain
I got a love in high places
I see the love in all the faces

[Outro]
Love will surely break your heart
Then set you free
Ha…

  1. Dana says:

Yeah, I’m with you on this one. Not bad, but not my cup of tea either.
