Song of the Day #2,076: ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ – Postmodern Jukebox

postmodern_jukebox_sweet_child_mineHere’s another entry from Postmodern Jukebox, a New Orleans jazz version of Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine.’

This might be my favorite clip of theirs yet, because I love that New Orleans sound, the singer (Miche Braden) has a wonderful voice and it’s so completely unexpected.

I’m sure Axl Rose never imagined his anthemic rock ballad performed quite like this. But the fact that it makes the transition so smoothly says a lot about the quality of the original song.

She’s got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I’d probably break down and cry

Sweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mine

She’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain

Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Sweet child o’ mine
Sweet love of mine
Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o’ mine

    This really is a brilliant reimagining of this song. I suspect some of your regular readers who are not into heavy metal may not be familiar with the original song and, therefore, may not folly appreciate what has been done to it. So, for their benefit, I encourage listening to the following;

Love this! What an improvement 🙂 Yes, I’m a sucker for this sort of sound anyway, but this is a wonderful rendition regardless. I just love how they’re getting that full sound in what looks like some sort of classroom, not a place you’d imagine would provide the best acoustics.
