Best Songs of 2013 – #13
I think Miranda Lambert has been around long enough now for me to consider her one of the most consistently great singer-songwriters I know.
Through four solo albums and two records with Pistol Annies, the woman has yet to release a bad song. And she’s delivered a boatload of truly great ones.
I’m most impressed by Lambert’s versatility. She is equally adept — both as a writer and performer — at ballsy stompers and melancholy ballads.
Lambert didn’t release a solo album this year, but the sophomore effort from Pistol Annies (Annie Up) sure did the trick. Lambert and fellow Annies Ashley Monroe (who will show up on this countdown again) and Angeleena Pressley dropped another collection of beautifully harmonized tracks.
First single ‘Hush Hush’ nicely captures the gently anarchic spirit of this album and the band in general.
