Song of the Day #1,945: ‘Blurred Lines’ – Postmodern Jukebox

postmodern_blurred_linesEverybody and their sister has recorded a cover of ‘Blurred Lines’ this year. I even dedicated a week of posts this summer to some of the more amusing ones. So I guess it was inevitable that Postmodern Jukebox would take a stab at it.

They opted for a bluegrass/country-and-western approach which serves the song pretty well. Of course I’m a pushover for this sort of instrumentation in any song.

Before playing the video, I was deeply skeptical that this could be pulled off since the original and even the more successful parodies depend heavily on studio production and not really musicality or instrumentation.

But damn if these people didn’t pull this off! This is absolutely great!

First, I’m more than a little bit disturbed that “Blurred Lines” has now been featured more times than any other song in your blog’s history! 🙂 That said, I agree with you (and Dana) that this works better than it should.

The rap is by far the most impressive part, leading Daniel to note “these guys are CRAZY talented.” Would have loved to see them simultaneously put a feminist twist on the lyrics while mixing up the musical interpretation.

    Agreed, this is pretty good!
