I discovered this song through the promotional teaser for the final episode of Breaking Bad (that clip contains spoilers, so don’t click through if that matters to you).
I’m posting this on the Thursday before the finale, but scheduling it for the Tuesday after, so I don’t want to use this post as another Breaking Bad appreciation. By the time this sees the light of day, the show will be over, and those thoughts will be out-date.
Instead I’ll comment on how cool it is to discover new music through something like a TV show promo.
Junip? Who knew?
This is a Swedish folk rock band with two albums under their belt and a few hundred thousand (and counting) new fans thanks to Vince Gilligan and company.
Maybe it isn’t accurate to call everybody who watches that promo a “new fan” of Junip, but this is a damn good song and I’m definitely intrigued.
As for the show, I’m crossing my fingers that the finale will live up to the extraordinary run of episodes that have aired so far this year. (Note added Monday morning: It did.) Most shows sort of fizzle out, some manage to end strong, but never in my life have I seen a TV show launch into the stratosphere the way this one has.
If it all came back to you?
Each crest of each wave
Bright as lightning
What would you say
If you had to leave today?
Leave everything behind
Even though for once, you’re shining
Standing on higher ground
When you hear the sounds
You realize its just the wind
And you notice it matters who and what you let under your skin
If put to the test
Would you step back from the line of fire?
Hold everything back
All emotion set aside it
Convince yourself
Someone else
Hide from the world
Your lack of confidence
What you choose to believe in
Takes you as you fall
Takes you as you fall
No one else around you
No one to understand you
No one to hear your calls
Look through all your dark corners
You’re backed up against the wall
Step back from the line of fire
What would you do
If it all came back to you?
Each crest of each wave
Bright as lightning
Do the same as you
What you choose to believe in
Takes you as you fall
No one else around you
No one to understand you
No one to hear your calls
Look through all your dark corners
You’re backed up against the wall
Step back from the line of fire
Well, since I missed the boat on Breaking Bad, I guess that if and when I get around to watching it, I will obviously know the spoilers. At this point, however, I’m not optimistic that I will ever watch it as there are only so many tv viewing hours in a day and quite a bit of “must see tv” we already are watching. So, Breaking Bad may end up going the way of The Sopranos for me.
Anyway, as for today’s song, pretty cool and the video is really intriguing.
Well, with DVDs so readily accessible, not to mention streaming, you never say never. I’m still planning to get around to The Wire one of these days!
I agree, it’s still worth catching up with (as is the Sopranos); I thought the ending more than lived up to my expectations; now on to Homeland and Boardwalk Empire 🙂
Mad Men and Justified are my two favorite shows still on the air. I’d like to catch up with Homeland and Scandal.
Just another great thing to add to the superlatives which apply to Breaking Bad…great music, cinematography, writing and acting. I watched it in binges and couldn’t get enough!
