I’ve written a couple of times this week about how the internet has changed the way we experience music — big newsflash there, I know.
Today’s clip is another wonderful example.
As a promotion for Bono’s ONE campaign, Elvis Costello teamed up with Mumford & Sons to perform a mash-up of Bruce Springsteen and Woody Guthrie. This may well have happened in a pre-YouTube era, but would I have seen it?
You could argue that the original Live Aid was more special for being an event you had to experience, well, live. But if those performances were spun off onto a hundred websites, wouldn’t they have reached more people, maybe done more good?
That’s very cool!
I’m not sure if more money is raised through videos like this vs. a live event on the order of Live Aid, but it’s great to have technology available to give these artists another means to have their music heard and videos seen.
This is musical nirvana. I just adore the sound of these musicians, and this is a wonderful gem of a video. Love Elvis doing Bruce! 🙂
