Song of the Day #1,753: ‘Invisible Riverside (Live at WFUV)’ – Ryan Adams

ryan_adamsMy workplace has been crazier than usual the past several weeks. Major projects are launching, the news has been particularly active and I recently received a promotion.

But as my professional life improves, my blog writing suffers. I bet if this blog didn’t have a built-in daily deadline, I would have let it slide long ago. It would look like so many blogs out there, suspended in time on some random date like a town abandoned after a zombie apocalypse.

The song-a-day format keeps me honest, though I sometimes wonder how much longer I can sustain the streak. One thousand seven hundred and fifty-three is a big number. How much bigger will it get before I call it quits? Or will I be writing my 16,150th blog entry sometime around my 80th birthday, featuring a song by somebody who hasn’t been born yet?

Anyway, I’m heading out of town for a week on business so I need to stock up on some blog posts. This week I will feature, without commentary, live radio station performances by a variety of artists.

First up is Ryan “Don’t call me Bryan” Adams.

I guess I’ll show my head
Either way I’m losing
Used to have the goods
That when I could use ’em
Standing by the ocean
Like I’m frozen here in time

[Chorus]
So don’t let go, don’t change your mind
If the stars fall into the ocean side
Someone hold the ribbons from my eyes, free, my soul
Let him roll away on an invisible riverside

I didn’t travel far
But my feet were moving
Couldn’t read the signs
They were too confusing
Standing by the ocean
Sunset Boulevard

[Chorus]

I wanna lay my head forever on your shoulder
Stay with me my love, now and when we’re older
Standing by the ocean, we got nothing now but time
Yes, don’t let go, don’t change your mind
The stars fall into the oceanside
Someone hold the ribbons from my eyes, free, my soul
Let him roll away on an invisible riverside

I was just wondering about this very question, and, yes, I didn have you blogging until 80. Have a great work week, and we’ll enjoy these songs while you’re away. Of course you could have just opted for a week of songs featured in zombie movies or something. Just saw a new trailer for Pitt’s World War Z. If that happens, you have my blessing to let the blog lag.

The image of you doing this blog at 80 is only potentially topped by the image of me in a nursing home at 85 asking the nurse to hand me my ipad 48 that my grandchildren gave me as a gift so I can keep my streak going of 16,150th comments on the blog.

We may both need an intervention. 😄
