I’m a huge Miami Heat and NBA basketball fan, but I don’t have any interest in either college basketball or women’s basketball, let alone women’s college basketball.
So I was caught off guard earlier this week when SportsCenter did a segment on Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins, the senior who just became the school’s all-time leading scorer after a monster semifinal game against Kansas.
Diggins is a college hoops legend who has dominated the game over the past few years, but somehow I’d never heard of her. And this is all the more upsetting because, in addition to being a special talent on the court, she is insanely hot. What if she joins the private sector after this season comes to an end? What a missed opportunity!
But I suspect she will either join the WNBA or ESPN (she interned there before her senior year) and remain in the public eye. It’s lousy that she can probably make more money and attract more fans if she does the latter, but perhaps she can bring some needed viewership to the women’s league. I know I’d watch.
Diggins seems to have this effect on many men, pathetic as we are. I found a plethora of tribute songs on YouTube, one of which I’m featuring today. My own slow-jam Skylar Diggins rap will come out sometime this summer.
Never heard of her either. Not so impressed with rap either. I’m hoping she joins the WNBA to put a brighter spotlight on women’s pro sports.
In defense of the “rapper,” I think it’s some guy in his bedroom on a Mac.
Looking forward to your song!
