Song of the Day #492: ‘Eight Days a Week’ – The Beatles

eighdaysThe Beatles’ fourth album, Beatles For Sale, has the dubious honor of being my least favorite of the band’s releases. Nestled between A Hard Day’s Night and Help! with half of its tracklist dedicated to covers, it never really stood a chance.

But, as the saying goes, the worst Beatles album is still better than most of what’s out there. And Beatles For Sale certainly has its share of great songs.

The best of them is ‘What You’re Doing,’ featured on the blog a year ago and one of my very favorite Beatles songs. That song alone makes this album a keeper.

The biggest hit on the album was ‘Eight Days a Week,’ a simple little ditty closer in spirit to their earliest releases than the more adventurous work to come. It’s notable for beginning with a fade in, as any Beatles reference guide will point out (I love how so many Beatles songs are known as the first widely known use of one trick or another).

Ooo I need your love, babe
Guess you know it’s true
Hope you need my love babe
Just like I need you

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain’t got nothing but love, babe
Eight days a week

Love you every day, girl
Always on my mind
One thing I can say, girl
Love you all the time

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain’t got nothing but love, girl
Eight days a week

Eight days a week
I love you
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care

Ooo I need your love, babe
Guess you know it’s true
Hope you need my love babe
Just like I need you

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain’t got nothing but love, babe
Eight days a week

Love you every day, girl
Always on my mind
One thing I can say girl
Love you all the time

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me
I ain’t got nothing but love, babe
Eight days a week
Eight days a week
Eight days a week

You knew I couldn’t resist this:

Not that we can hold THAT against the Beatles. Still, it’s intriguing to imagine what any other of their songs might sound like with the “country treatment.” πŸ™‚ This song is perfectly fun, but it’s not much more than that.

πŸ™‚ I do like this song, just because it was horribly butchered…. doesnt make it a bad song XD

Horribly butchered? Kristy Lee can sing for me anytime:)
