Yes, the title is ridiculous, but this trailer for the follow-up to Casino Royale (for my money, the best Bond movie ever) is pretty friggin’ great:

Okay, I feel a bit stupid on a couple of fronts. First, what does the title mean? Quantam of Solace? I don’t get it. Second, how much are we supposed to remember about the previous film in order to follow this one’s plot? Because I remember a lot of running and jumping and torture and water but not much about specific plot points. Why does Bond want revenge? I feel like the grandfather in Moonstruck: “I’m so confused.”
(Though I do admit the action sequences look awesome and I adore Judi Dench)
I have no idea what the title means… it probably refers to some world-ending device or the like.
At the end of the first film, Bond was betrayed by Vesper, the woman he fell in love with and was then double-crossed by. But it was a reluctant betrayal (the bad guys had kidnapped her boyfriend) and she wound up killing herself while Bond tried helplessly to save her. A text message she left behind led Bond to the mastermind behind this betrayal.
Bond, presumably, is seeking revenge on the baddies who kidnapped and killed her boyfriend and drove her to suicide.
It looks like we’re in for another exciting Bond film! Isn’t the title from the book? I think that’s what Dad said. I think he’s the best Bond ever.
Maybe it is a book title, but I still don’t understand it. I’ve only ever heard quantum used in terms of quantum physics, engineering or mechanics. What that has to do with solace, I don’t know. Is it some measurable amount of solace? Regardless, Hollywood has changed many a book title to suit their purposes; I think this would have been a good one to sacrifice.
As for Daniel Craig being the best Bond — hmmm…. He’s certainly an intriguing Bond. He’s the most buff Bond 🙂 He’s perhaps a bit of a throwback to Sean Connery’s Bond. I don’t know that I’m ready to crown him the best after a single outing. Having grown up on Roger Moore’s comical Bond and having been a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan’s Remington Steele as Bond, my jury is still out on this one.
