Song of the Day #2,417: ‘You’ – Al Green

algreenI have some albums that I never, ever play but would be perfectly happy to have on in the background at a dinner party. I guess it’s the difference between active and passive listening.

I feel that way about this 2003 comeback album by Al Green. I feel that way about all of Al Green’s music, to be honest. He has a legendary voice, the songs are soulful and classy, but they don’t command my full attention.

Song of the Day #1,293: ‘You’ – TV On the Radio

My final 2011 video, and my favorite of the bunch, is TV On the Radio’s clip for the song ‘You’ from their album Nine Types of Light.

This is more of a short film than a music video. The concept is that the band members are meeting up in a diner a year after breaking up. The first several minutes of the video, as well as spans at the middle and end, show the five men reuniting with the sort of casual improvisational conversation that made Diner and Tin Men such a treat.
