Song of the Day #5,855: ‘Strong Enough’ – Sheryl Crow

After working for six years as a music teacher, backup singer, and songwriter-for-hire, Sheryl Crow found major success with her debut album, 1993’s Tuesday Night Music Club. That album went 7x Platinum and remains her biggest hit.

Though she didn’t match her debut’s success, she did release four more Platinum or multi-Platinum albums over the next 12 years, and has sold 50 million albums worldwide while winning nine Grammys throughout her career. She has not, however, had a song reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Song of the Day #2,945: ‘All I Wanna Do’ – Sheryl Crow

sheryl_crow_tuesday_night_music_club‘All I Wanna Do’ is the song that launched Sheryl Crow into the public eye, and remains the biggest hit of her career. The track won Grammys for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, both well-earned.

I was going to use today’s blog entry to praise Crow’s excellent lyrics, because this song is an explosion of wonderful imagery and flawless characterization. But a little research revealed that the credit for those lyrics belongs to poet Wyn Cooper instead.
