Song of the Day #2,446: ‘Springtime’ – The Head and the Heart

head_heart_lets_be_stillThe Head and the Heart are a band I expected would become a favorite of mine based on the first few songs I heard. Maybe they still will.

The Seattle indie band’s sophomore album, Let’s Be Still, has a great acoustic sound in the same vein as Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes — that whole hipster folk rock throwback thing. These days that feels a little obvious, but it’s still a great sound.

Song of the Day #1,972: ‘Shake’ – The Head and the Heart

head_heart_lets_be_stillBest Songs of 2013 – #18

I’m still getting to know Let’s Be Still, the sophomore album by Seattle band The Head and the Heart, but I know I love its first single, ‘Shake.’

This is the most immediately accessible song on the record, but not in a bad way. Often an album’s catchy first single is the first track to fade from memory as deeper cuts earn their way into my esteem.

Song of the Day #1,956: ‘Another Story’ – The Head and the Heart

head_heart_lets_be_stillI don’t remember where I first heard about The Head and the Heart, but in typical fashion, once I did I immediately started hearing about them everywhere else.

This Seattle-based band is usually compared to the string of indie-folk groups that have dominated the musical landscape in recent years — the Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes and Avett Brothers of the world. Not bad company to be in, for sure.
