Song of the Day #5,563: ‘Before They Make Me Run’ – The Rolling Stones

Fourteen years and 14 albums into their career, The Rolling Stones released their best-selling album ever. Why 1978’s Some Girls earned that honor is a bit of a mystery. It did produce two top ten hits (‘Miss You,’ which hit #1, and ‘Beast of Burden’) but otherwise doesn’t feature any songs a casual fan would know.

The album also came in the midst of a critical slump for the band, following three straight albums that failed to live up to their great work from the late 60s and early 70s. Some Girls shifted that conversation, and was hailed by many as The Stones’ best work since Exile on Main St.

Song of the Day #4,796: ‘Shattered’ – The Rolling Stones

Today is my sister’s birthday, and you all know what it means when a birthday falls on a Random Weekend. Time to spin the wheel and see what the Random iTunes Fairy has in store by way of celebration.

And it’s… ‘Shattered,’ the final track on The Rolling Stones’ 1978 album Some Girls. This album, which embraced the dominant disco sound of the era, was critically acclaimed and became the band’s top-selling album.

Song of the Day #1,824: ‘Miss You’ – The Rolling Stones

amoeba_musicLos Angeles is so different from San Francisco. In the immediate aftermath of traveling to both cities, my take is that I love visiting San Francisco as a tourist but I could see myself living in L.A.

It sounds funny, but we kind of ran out of touristy things to do in Los Angeles after a few days. So we spent a lot of time doing things we might do back home — going to the movies, shopping, walking through pretty promenades. And browsing at what has to be the greatest music store in the country — Amoeba Music.
