Song of the Day #3,484: ‘May I Have This Dance’ – Francis and the Lights feat. Chance the Rapper

This song (and its video) is one of my favorite discoveries of 2017, and I didn’t even know it existed until two days before the New Year.

Francis and the Lights is a one-man pop act who hails from Oakland and has released two albums and a handful of EPs over the last decade. He is best known for collaborations with Kanye West (on the song ‘Friends’) and today’s track, which was remixed with an added verse by Chance the Rapper.

Song of the Day #3,087: ‘Dear Theodosia (Reprise)’ – Hamilton Mixtape

hamilton_mixtapeWhen I first started listening to Hamilton, long before I saw it on Broadway and before I knew it would become my whole family’s obsession, I was immediately drawn to the simple piano ballad ‘Dear Theodosia.’ It’s a love song from Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr to their young children and one of the prettiest songs in the play.

The track reminded me of Ben Folds’ ‘Gracie,’ one of my very favorite songs, and at the time I longed for a Ben Folds cover of ‘Dear Theodosia.’
