Week two of the Billboard Hot 100 rundown brings us to #13 and another Drake entry.
‘Jumpman’ is a collaboration with rapper Future that takes its title from Nike’s Michael Jordan logo.
It’s time for another installment of What the Kids are Listening To! It’s been a couple of months since I featured Billboard’s top hits, presumably enough time for some turnover in those ranks.
Or not. At #1 this week is The Weeknd with ‘The Hills,’ a song I featured on August 28 when it was #5 on this list. I caught it on the rise back then, because this is the fifth straight week at #1 for that track.
Wrapping up a rather depressing two weeks of Billboard tracks — how many boring, offensive or boring and offensive songs can be popular at once? — we land at #14 and a new track from Nicki Minaj.
In the 13th spot was Meghan Trainor with ‘Lips Are Movin’,’ which sounds like the freaking Beatles compared to most of this dreck.
I have high hopes for Minaj, though, even if I’m unimpressed with Drake and Lil Wayne, her collaborators on this track. Minaj is always interesting, if nothing else.
In the fifth spot on the Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll is Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ (actually, it tied for fourth with yesterday’s Kanye track).
Coming in at #6 is ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Drake.
I haven’t heard much by Drake, but I know he’s considered the bee’s knees by critics and fans alike. I was impressed by his recent Saturday Night Live appearance (the comedy anyway… I didn’t watch the musical performances).
