Petula Clark topped the Billboard Hot 100 the week of January 26, 1965, with ‘Downtown.’ It was the song’s second straight week at #1.
This single was the first U.S. chart-topper for the British singer/actress, and kicked off a phase of her career during which she released 15 consecutive Top 40 hits in the States.
We have repeats in the 9th, 10th and 11th positions on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week. In order, they are Silento’s ‘Watch Me,’ Selena Gomez’s ‘Good For You‘ and Major Lazer’s ‘Lean On.’
The Silento track is rather absurd, though strangely catchy. But I really like the other two: Gomez’s bid for an adult audience is going well, and Major Lazer just keeps on growing on me.
