Song of the Day #5,577: ‘Dead Flowers’ – The Rolling Stones

Well, that was an epic journey. Twenty-three studio albums, 52 years, and one legendary band.

The Rolling Stones have put their unmistakable stamp on blues, R&B, rock, pop, psychedelic, disco, and country songs, churning out album after album with humor, passion and pathos. Not everything they did worked, but they worked at everything they did. And their discography is remarkably strong — I’d definitely recommend 18 of these 23 releases.

#4. The Big Lebowski (1998)

The Big Lebowski opened in 1998 to mixed critical reviews and mediocre box office returns. Following the Coens’ Oscar-winning Fargo, it was viewed by many as an uneven, infantile misstep.

Today, it is arguably the duo’s most beloved film, with devotees attending annual Lebowski Fests both in America and abroad.

Song of the Day #1,214: ‘Dead Flowers’ – Miranda Lambert

A couple of weeks back I did a theme week on metaphors and my intent was to follow it up with a series on similes. But I wasn’t coming up with many great examples and the whole process started to feel like a project for a freshman English class, so I abandoned it.

One song I had planned to feature in my ‘simile week’ was Miranda Lambert’s ‘Dead Flowers.’ This was an early single off of her excellent third album Revolution and one of her most effective.
