Yesterday I posted my 3,000th Song of the Day. At least I think I did.
Awhile ago I was browsing earlier posts on the blog and I happened upon a series of entries in the early 2,000’s that overlapped. Specifically, ten numbers — 2,117 through 2,126 — were used back to back. I have two 2,117s, two 2,118s and so on.
That means my 3,000th blog post was really my 3,011th. At least that’s what it means if I found the only such mistake in my 8 years of blogging.
After choosing ‘American Boy’ yesterday, I couldn’t resist the symmetrical pick of ‘American Girl’ today. And this can also serve as another exhibit in the gallery of ugly male singers.
I often joke with my wife about Tom Petty. She will instinctively say that she dislikes him intensely, yet every time a Tom Petty song comes on the radio she’s thrilled and insists that this is the one Tom Petty song she really likes. Of course she has said that about at least five different songs by now. In my book, once you love five songs by an artist, you kind of have to call yourself a fan. Sorry, Alex!

Now this was a pleasant surprise!
Took the day off to spend some time with the kids before school starts back up and after some pool time and Ikea time (ok, that was more for Alex and me than for the kids) Sophia and I went to see Kit Kittredge.
I don’t know anything about these American Girl dolls or books. We saw a store once in Chicago and it sort of creeped me out to see all these girls dressed just like the dolls they were carrying. I figured it was some sort of Stepford situation.
But if they’re all like this movie, sign me up. It’s delightful, sweet, poignant and clever with a mystery plotline that kept me guessing throughout. It has a cornball appeal and girl-power message that totally won me over.
