Song of the Day #6,122: ‘Last Child’ – Aerosmith

Continuing my look at the albums of 1976…

I was looking forward to hearing Aerosmith’s Rocks, the band’s fourth album and their follow-up to the previous year’s Toys in the Attic. I featured that album in the 1975 Decades installment and enjoyed it quite a bit.

This one was less of a hit but still went 4X Platinum, is a fan favorite, and is often cited as an inspiration by other artists.

Song of the Day #5,441: ‘Uncle Salty’ – Aerosmith

Continuing my look at the albums of 1975…

Aerosmith is one of the best-selling rock bands of all time and yet somehow I’ve never heard one of their albums start to finish. I have vague memories of 1989’s Pump circulating when I was in high school, but I never got around to listening.

I know the singles very well, and I’ve certainly rocked out to their greatest hits on countless rides of Disney World’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but I’d be hard pressed to name a single deep cut.

Song of the Day #199: ‘The Other Side’ – Aerosmith

aerosmithSteven Tyler turned 60 last year. That’s like 140 in rock star years. But it occurs to me that Aerosmith, or at least their management and marketing teams, have done a fantastic job of remaining relevant and hip to younger generations.

They are like the wizened old newspaper reporter who starts a blog and shoots and edits his own video while colleagues half his age complain about having to post stories to the Web. Proof positive that age is just a number.
