Song of the Day #6,353: ‘Thanksgiving Song’ – Mary Chapin Carpenter

Taking a break from ‘What the Kids are Listening To’ to acknowledge today’s Thanksgiving holiday (apologies to the international readers). Mostly I didn’t want to post a Chris Brown song on a family holiday.

Thanksgiving doesn’t really have songs, certainly not like Christmas or even Halloween. But I did find this lovely ballad by Mary Chapin Carpenter which I think does the trick.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Song of the Day #6,352: ‘Your Idol’ – Saja Boys

Taylor Swift holds the #13 spot on the latest Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ the second track on The Life of a Showgirl. The first four songs on the album remain in the top 20, suggesting enough people are interrupted in their listening to show diminishing returns for later tracks.

Song of the Day #6,351: ‘Soda Pop’ – Saja Boys

The HUNTR/X song ‘Golden,’ from the Netflix animated smash hit KPop Demon Hunters, became one of the few songs by a fictional band to reach #1 on the Hot 100.

But ‘Soda Pop,’ by another fictional band in the same film, wasn’t too far behind. This one, by the boy band Saja Boys, made it to #3 on the chart and 19 weeks into its run is still at #12. Not bad for a cartoon group.

Returning to my latest installment of ‘What the Kids are Listening To,’ we’ve arrived at #11 on the most recent edition of the Billboard Hot 100.

‘Back to Friends’ is the lead single from singer-songwriter Sombr’s debut album, I Barely Know Her. This is actually Sombr’s 19th single overall, as he’s spent the last four years dropping non-album singles along with an EP. But thanks primarily to TikTok exposure, this is his first release to find a wide audience.

Song of the Day #6,349: ‘We Built This City’ – Starship

It’s hard to believe that 17 years and 6,348 songs into my daily blogging enterprise I had yet to feature the recording often called the worst song of all time.

Well, that oversight is remedied today, as Starship’s ‘We Built This City’ was the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of December 23, 1985. Yes, today we’re throwing back to a time when ‘We Built This City’ was an unironic hit.
