The final Song of the Summer finalist shows up at #11 on Billboard’s official chart, and it’s another case where I’ve never heard of the song or the artist.
It turns out I do know Leon Thomas, if not by name. He played Andre in four seasons of the Nickelodeon series Victorious, which my daughters (and therefore I) watched in the early 2020s. He also appeared on Broadway in The Lion King and The Color Purple. In the mid 2010s, he shifted his attention to music, writing and producing for others and eventually recording his own songs.
‘MUTT’ is the title track and first single from Thomas’ sophomore album, released last year. His new-school R&B style earned him strong reviews and decent sales, with this song peaking at #12 on the Hot 100.
It’s nice to see another Victorious alum finding success as an adult. Thomas might not be gracing the Oscar stage like his former co-star Ariana Grande, but it looks like he’s well on his way to a successful music career.

Never heard this one either. I think that, in any given year there can really only be a few songs in serious contention for Song of the Summer, so this list should stop after five at best
