Pat Benatar is another rock legend who has never landed a #1 hit on the Hot 100, though she has come close a couple of times.

Like so many artists I’ve featured over the past three weeks, Benatar has had a lot of success selling albums. She released three Platinum and two multi-Platinum albums during a 5-year span in the late 70s and early 80s. But those albums produced just two top ten hits.

The first was 1980’s ‘Hit Me with Your Best Shot,’ which reached #9. The lead single of 1984’s Tropico was ‘We Belong,’ which made it all the way to #5.

Also peaking at #5 was the classic ‘Love is a Battlefield,’ which appeared on a 1983 live album. That track reached number one in a few other countries but in the U.S. it fell behind Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, and Hall & Oates. Not bad company, to be sure.

Benatar had one other top ten hit, 1985’s ‘Invincible,’ which just made the cut at #10.
